    If you a) have paid in the national pension plan for at least six months without receiving any pension benefits and b) apply for payment within two years of the date you left Japan, you will be refunded a portion of the premiums you paid in a lump-sum payment.   • A17.Elementary Schools and Junior High Schools
    Japan’s compulsory education consists of a total of nine years: six years of elementary school (ages 6 to 12) and three years of junior high school (ages12 to 15).     “Kindergartens” are educational facilities for preschool children, while “childcare facilities” are welfare facilities for children whose parents and guardians cannot look after them during the day because of work or illness.
